Hope Locals Fell Run

On the 10th of October at 10.30am I held the Hope Locals Fell Run. After spending hours promoting this local event (not to mention marking the course out) I am very sad to report that NOT ONE PERSON turned up at the start line. I was led to believe that we have people living in Hope, Aston and Brough who feel strongly that the new Wakes Week Fell Race was preventing the local population from having a chance to run in a less competitive atmosphere. As a fell runner, resident and co-organiser of the new Fell Race, I thought I could help out and organise a Locals Run which would enable people to have the type of event that they had been asking for. Just imagine how disappointed I am that we as a Parish cannot support an event that goes back 65 years. Needless to say I will not be organising a locals fell run in 2011 but will continue to help organise next year’s Wakes Week 65th anniversary race. This race will be open to all, advertised in The FRA calendar at 5.9 miles and 1483ft, with prizes to the first Hope Local and Hope Valley Local plus lots of other prizes. Maybe, just maybe, we might see more Hope locals next year supporting their race. Surely, it`s the taking part that counts not just the winning.

I would like to thank Stuart, Steve, Jane, David (feeling worse for wear) and Fiona who gave up their Sunday morning lie in to enable this run to take place. Sorry for wasting your time guys. Finally, a big thank you to Steve, Helen, Leo and Amelie for supporting the idea.
